A wet Monday is in store for millions of Brits as an array of flood alerts are still in place after previous weather warnings for rain.

The Environment Agency has eight flood warnings that are still in place in the Hertfordshire and Hampshire areas as well as in Oxfordshire and County Durham. Whilst in flood warnings remain in place for Rivers Clyst and Culm and their tributaries. This covers Glasgow, Argyll and Bute, Ayrshire and Lanarkshire.

The Met Office is forecasting that sunshine and heavy showers will affect "many areas on Easter Monday".

The weather across the country for the rest of the weekend is expected to be "changeable", with warm sunshine as well as frequent showers, according to the Met Office.

BBC weather shares this view, the forecaster says that "Easter Monday will see sunshine and showers, locally heavy and thundery, particularly in south England".

For tomorrow, Easter Sunday " a scattering of showers is likely across southern England and south Wales" and on a more positive note there will be "warm spells of hazy sunshine".

The RAC also has warned drivers travelling during the bank holiday to be careful in the event of heavy downpours given the large numbers of cars expected on the roads.

Breakdown spokesperson Alice Simpson has warned drivers to plan ahead before they set off as the wet weather many disrupt plans.

She said: "It's vital to plan ahead and be prepared for trips to take longer because of the wet weather and the expected getaway congestion."
