Bhubaneswar: Odisha's government has recently approved seven renewable energy projects, marking a significant step towards enhancing the state's green energy capabilities, with a total investment of Rs 1191.47 crore.
This decision was made during the 10th meeting of the Single Window Committee (SWC), which operates under the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy-2022. The meeting was led by Vishal Kumar Dev, the principal secretary of the Energy department. The approved projects will collectively generate 149.97 MW of power, comprising two wind energy projects with a combined capacity of 95.7 MW, four solar energy projects totaling 53.97 MW, and the state's inaugural battery storage project, which will have a capacity of 0.6 MWh. These developments are anticipated to significantly bolster Odisha's renewable energy framework and facilitate the transition to sustainable energy sources.
Dev emphasized the government's dedication to fostering renewable energy as a crucial element for sustainable economic advancement. He stated, "Odisha is capitalizing on its natural resources to attract investments and promote development." The meeting also assessed the progress of previously approved projects.
Representatives from various departments and agencies, including the Energy department, Water Resources department, Revenue & Disaster Management department, GRIDCO, OPTCL, electricity distribution companies, OHPC, and EIC (Electricity), were involved in the discussions. To date, the Single Window Committee has granted in-principle approval for renewable energy projects amounting to Rs 12,387.36 crore, with a total generation capacity of 1,707.56 MW.
