Viewers of 's said they "changed channels" after realising the most recent episode, broadcast on April 29, was a repeat of the edition first shown a fortnight ago on Wednesday April 16. Host Kevin McCloud revisited a couple called Graeme and Melanie, whose Hackney build became far more complex and expensive than they anticipated.
However, fans of the show were less than impressed to be watching the episode again so soon. "I don't know why they have to repeat them so often," one fumed. "We thought exactly the same... @granddesigns changed channels now," another concurred. "@granddesigns @Channel4 I think you've made a mistake - you're showing the same #granddesigns episode you showed the week before last," a third chimed in. "Oh I've seen this one. I'm sure it was on not long ago. #GrandDesigns," a fourth added. Meanwhile a fifth enquired: "Why are we getting repeats midway through a new series? #granddesigns @Channel4."
Graeme and Melanie's ambitious build in Hackney was being developed on a tiny twin garage plot on a traditional Victorian terraced road they purchased for £275,000.
They gave themselves a tight 12-month schedule to complete the project and had budgeted £400,000 to £450,000 for it.
As an architect himself, Graeme planned the home to be a comfortable haven for themselves and their teenage daughters.
He said he wanted the home to be "an unapologetically modernist bright red design" with a smart interior to maximise space vertically.
They ran into further issues when the basement contractor withdrew from the project due to skyrocketing material costs, which Kevin pointed out was a worldwide problem.
They also encountered issues with their neighbours and were given a strict deadline to remove their scaffolding or face a fine.
With their daughters getting angsty due to living on a building site the pressure was really on the couple to get the project finished.
Kevin's revisit came 18 months after the initial drama as he checked in to see if they had managed to complete their dream home.
