Akshaya tritiya 2025: Akshaya Tritiya is also known as 'Akha Teej' or 'Ati'. It is considered a very auspicious and virtuous date in Hinduism. This festival is celebrated on Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Vaisakh month and this year this day is falling on April 30. The word 'Akshay' means which never decay. This day is known for such virtuous works, whose fruit remains for eternity.
There is also a tradition of buying gold on this day, which is considered a symbol of prosperity and security. Not only this, donations, penance, worship and yajna performed on this day offer infinite virtue. Religious belief is that on this day Lord Nar-Narayan, Hayagriva and Parashurama were also descended.
According to the Bhavishya Purana, Lord Krishna told Yudhishthira, the eldest brother of the Pandavas, the glory of Akshaya Tritiya. He narrated the story of a religious Vaishya sir, who was of Satyavrati, sweet -spoken and religious tendency.
Sir, despite being extremely busy in life, he always took interest in religious discussion and had reverence in the speech of saints. During a visit, he heard some sages saying that when Akshaya Tritiya falls on Rohini Nakshatra and Wednesday, its fruit increases manifold. Any virtuous work done at that time gives renewable results.
Inspired by this knowledge, Sir went to the banks of the Ganges and offered his ancestors, then returned and donated according to the strength. The donations he made included:
Water filled with water
Barley, salt and gram
Curd-rice (dadhyodan)
Mole, sweets and milk products
Although his wife was entangled in worldly fascination and was opposing this donation, still sir was not distracted by his religious loyalty. He attained salvation from his penance and virtue of charity.
In rebirth, Sir was born in a Kshatriya clan of Kushavpuri. He became extremely wealthy and served the poor by doing many yagyas, donations like cows, golden, land donation and grain. The donation made by him never decreased. It proves that the virtuous deeds performed on Akshaya Tritiya remains Akshaya till births.
Shri Krishna told Yudhishthira that on the day of Vaishakh Shukla Tritiya:
Take a bath
Worship Lord Vasudev
Tribe the fathers
Eat a time
Do havan with all
Water filled pitcher
Barley, wheat, gram, sattu
Seasonal fruit
Umbrellas, shoes, clothes, cow and gold
Especially in Rohini Nakshatra, worshiping Lord Shiva and donating Udakumbh leads to Shivlok.
The glory of this day is also mentioned in detail in the Vishnu Dharma Purana. According to this, keeping fast on this day brings infinite virtue. When this day comes with Kritika Nakshatra, its effect becomes more. Lord Vishnu should worship with Sattu and Akshat (unbroken rice). By offering havan with Sattu and Akshat, offering to Brahmins, renewable virtue is attained.
