The World Snooker Championship final will be played over a best-of-35-frame format, with the first player to 18 frames taking the title.
Players must pot a red ball first before moving onto a colour, then another red and continuing in an alternating pattern. Once all the reds, which are worth one point each, are cleared from the table, the colours are potted in order of ascending value, starting with yellow, then green, brown, blue, pink and black. If a player does not pot a ball, the next player has their turn at the table.
The frame ends when the black is potted, or before that if one player misses a pot having amassed too many points for the opponent to catch up.
On the rare occasion a frame ends in a draw, with both players finishing on the same number of points, it is decided by a 'black ball game'. The referee will respot the black, and the first player to pot it wins the frame. A coin toss decides which player goes first.
