Retiring rooms are short-stay accommodation facilities available at major Indian railway stations. Offered by Indian Railways, they are meant for passengers to rest during layovers, delays, or overnight stays. Rooms are available in AC and non-AC variants, as well as dormitories, and can be booked for single, double, or family occupancy.

Room Types & Charges

The charges vary based on the type of room, location, and duration. Here’s a rough guide:

  • AC Single/Double Room: Rs 200–Rs 800 for 12/24 hours

  • Non-AC Room: Rs 150–Rs 500

  • Dormitory Beds: Rs 100–Rs 300 per bed

Rates are generally economical, making them a cost-effective choice compared to hotels, especially for short durations.

How to Book a Retiring Room

You can book a retiring room in two main ways:

1. Online via IRCTC

- Visit or use the IRCTC Rail Connect app

- Log in and select “Retiring Room” from the services menu

- Enter your PNR number, station, and date of stay

- Choose room type, make payment, and get a digital confirmation

2. Offline at Stations

- Approach the Retiring Room booking counter at the station

- Fill in the form with journey details and present your ticket

- Pay at the counter and get a booking slip

Note: Only passengers with a valid train ticket (with a PNR) can book retiring rooms.

Tips for Travellers

- Book early, especially during holidays or weekends

- Check-in and check-out times usually follow a 12 or 24-hour format

- Carry ID proof and your ticket for verification
