has revealed the seven best destinations for pensioners in based on reviews by senior travellers. The list includes two stunning Spanish islands and some surprise appearances, but they all have one thing in common: they are slightly off the popular tourist trail.
TUI Musement, its tour and activities arm, revealed which destinations best suited over-65s by analysing their reviews of experiences. With an average rating of 8.76, the popular coastal town of Lárnaca, Cyprus, topped the ranking. Visitors raved about the Troodos Mountains, the largest mountain range in , and the traditional villages of Lefkara, famous for lace embroidery and filigree silver, and and traditional medieval settlement of Fikardou.
Another Mediterranean gem, Skiathos in , came second, thanks to its island-hopping cruises that stop at Skopelos, a place made famous as the set of Mamma Mia! A direct flight from the UK takes just three hours and 20 minutes.
The bronze medallist was Madeira, , which has been nicknamed the 'Hawaii of Europe' online, and praised for its breathtaking views from the cliffs of Cabo Girão, the tropical gardens of Monte Palace. The island's mild climate and stunning landscapes contribute further to its appeal.
Greece fared well on TUI's list, with Kefalonia also making the top seven. This Ionian island was ideal for pensioners thanks to its variety of attractions, like the famous white sands and dramatic cliffs of Myrtos Beach, or the crystal clear waters inside Melissani Cave.
Greek mythology enthusiasts may enjoy a visit to Ithaca, known as the island home of Odysseus, while Fiskardo is a much-loved picturesque harbour village.
Italy's beautiful came next, and it's not hard to understand why. From exploring ancient landmarks of Pompeii or catching a boat down the Amalfi Coast to gape in awe at the stunning shoreline, there's plenty on offer to keep travellers entertained.
