Starting as a child actor
Before becoming one of India’s most loved singers, Sonu Nigam began his journey in the entertainment industry as a child actor. He appeared in several films such as 'Betaab' (1983), 'Pitra', and 'Ustadi Ustad Se'.
His roles as young actor
The singer also acted in other films where he played the younger version of lead characters. In 'Humse Hai Zamana', he portrayed young Mithun Chakraborty , and in 'Taqdeer', he played the young version of Shatrughan Sinha.
Acting journey in films
He acted in a few Bollywood films in the early 2000s. He appeared as a supporting actor in the multi-starrer 'Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani' (2002). Later, he played lead roles in 'Kash Aap Hamare Hote' (2003) and 'Love In Nepal' (2004).
He began his singing career with the album 'Rafi Ki Yaadein' (1995), a tribute to Mohammed Rafi . His big breakthrough came with the emotional song 'Sandese Aate Hain' from the film Border (1997). After that, he became one of Bollywood’s top playback singers, known for hits like 'Kal Ho Naa Ho', 'Abhi Mujhme Kahin', 'Main Hoon Na', 'Apne', 'Papa Meri Jaan', and more.
