Hyderabad Metro Phase 2: According to news agency IANS, Telangana Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao declared that the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the Hyderabad Metro’s phase 2 (part B) will shortly be presented to the Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) Board for evaluation as the project draws to a close.
The Chief Secretary further said that DPRs are nearing completion for three important corridors: Shamshabad-Future City (40 km), Jubilee Bus Station (JBS)-Medchal (24.5 km), and JBS-Shamirpet (22 km).
In contrast, the state is awaiting the center’s sanction for Phase 2 (Part A), which would cost an estimated Rs 24,269 crore and extend 76.4 km with five corridors.
According to the Chief Secretary, the three routes from the first phase would be extended into all five corridors under Part A of Phase 2. The analysis estimates that by 2028, the number of riders would have increased to 7.96 lakh due to the construction of five additional routes.
Phase 1 included the construction of three congested corridors totaling 69 KM at a cost of Rs 22,148 crore. These lines continue to be the biggest metro project in the world under Public-Private Partnership (PPP), now servicing almost 5 lakh passengers per day.
Along with HAML MD N. V. S. Reddy, Ramakrishna Rao, who took office on April 30, toured the Old City Metro Corridor. He expressed pleasure with the long-delayed road extension and demolition work after reviewing the 7.5 km section from MGBS to Chandrayangutta.
