Who is Harsh Dubey: The Sunrisers Hyderabad season in IPL 2025 has been nothing short of a disaster. After revolutionising T20 cricket and finishing as the runners-up in 2024, this team has fallen on hard times this time around. In the 10 matches they have played so far, the Sunrisers have only won three. With six points and the worst net run rate in the league, they are currently at ninth on the points table.

But that is not all, as this team has also suffered from injury troubles. After focusing on batters while making retentions ahead of the mega-auction, SRH bought Adam Zampa as their frontline spinner, with the likes of Rahul Chahar and Zeeshan Ansari as backups.

However, partway through the season, Zampa injured his shoulder. As a replacement, the Hyderabad-based franchise brought in Karnataka-based batter Smaran Ravichandran, a player who showed a lot of potential across formats in domestic cricket. Naturally, with a stacked batting lineup, he did not get a chance to play. Now Smaran has suffered an injury and has been replaced by Harsh Dubey for the remainder of the season.

Who is Harsh Dubey?

But who is Harsh Dubey, and why is there a decent amount of hype around this young all-rounder? Dubey was born in Pune, Maharashtra, on July 23, 2002, making him 22 years old. He is a left-handed bowling all-rounder who bowls left-arm finger spin.

Harsh started his cricket career in the Vidarbha U-19 circuit and now represents their senior squad in domestic cricket. The Vidarbha side team in the Ranji Trophy is a great one. The likes of Karun Nair, Jiovesh Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Atharva Taide, and Yash Thakur play for this team that won the 2024/25 Ranji Trophy season.

However, in such a star-studded team, Harsh Dubey stood out. Not only was he the highest wicket-taker in this Ranji season with 69 wickets in 10 games, but the youngster also broke the record of the highest wicket tally by an individual in one Ranji Trophy season, breaking Ashutosh Aman’s record of 69 in the 2018-19 season.

In the Ranji Trophy 2024/25, Harsh took 69 wickets (the most ever in a single season), at a brilliant average of 16.98 and a strike rate of 38.17. He also bowled the most overs this season, 439 to be exact, which is almost 44 per match. This shows that he is also a workhorse.

In the IPL, he was brought into the Sunrisers Hyderabad side for Rs. 30 lakh, his base price in the recent auction.

While it is highly unlikely that Dubey will get any match time for SRH in IPL 2025, his being in an IPL squad will only take his career another step forward.

As for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, their campaign in IPL 2025 is coming to an end, and they will fail to make it to the playoffs this season. The team will now be eyeing a few good results at the end of the season and what to improve for next year.
