Chennai Super Kings seems super interested in bagging young names as injury replacements, as they have done once again by buying the 26-year-old Urvil Patel. Earlier, CSK added the South African rookie Dewald Brevis and then signed the Maharashtran prodigy Ayush Mhatre. Urvil came in the limelight in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) T20 tournament last year after he smashed twin centuries for Baroda.
On Monday, Urvil was added to the squad mid-season as a replacement for Vansh Bedi. The 22-year-old Delhi-based wicketkeeper has been ruled out from the season due to an ankle injury. The IPL released an official statement on Monday that said:
"Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has signed Urvil Patel as a replacement for Vansh Bedi, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament owing to a ligament tear in the left ankle."

Well, this is not the first time Urvil has signed with an IPL team. Even though he went unsold in the 2025 Mega Auction, he was a part of the Gujarat Titans squad in 2023. But, unfortunately, he could not manage the cap.
In the SMAT 2024-2025, Urvil scored 315 runs in 6 matches, maintaining a massive strike rate of 200. Urvil has set a new record by scoring a 28-ball century for Gujarat in a T20 match against Tripura, surpassing Rishabh Pant's record for the fastest T20 century by an Indian. Just a week later, the Gujarat batter followed up with another explosive performance, hitting a 36-ball century against Uttarakhand. In 47 T20 matches, he mounted 1162 runs, having a healthy strike rate of 170.
Meanwhile, CSK does not have a good name in backing youngsters. But in 2025, they managed to rope in a good number of young names, Shaik Rasheed being one of them. , who debuted later, did use the opportunities, but Rasheed is yet to go big. CSK has three matches left in the season and has already been ruled out from the playoff race.
