will close 23 of its in June as part of a wider plan to shut 95 locations across by September. The move is part of a major restructuring by the bank, which has blamed the closures on a "rapid movement of customers choosing to do their banking digitally".

Three branches will shut in , five in , three in , and 12 in . The closures will begin on Monday, June 16, and continue through to the end of the month. Five branches are set to shut on June 16, with another five closing later that week. Ten more will cease trading in the week beginning June 23, and the final four will shut on Monday, June 30.

It is believed that around 750 jobs are at risk due to the nationwide cuts.

A spokesperson for Santander UK said: "As customer behaviour changes, we are ensuring that our branches remain fit for the future.

"Our new combination of full-service branches, alongside work cafés, counter-free branches and reduced-hours branches, aims to provide the right balance between digital banking and face-to-face money management and guidance.

"Closing a branch is always a very difficult decision, and we spend a great deal of time assessing where and when we do this and how to minimise the impact it may have on our customers."

Once the closures are complete, Santander will have 349 sites across the UK, including 290 full-service branches, five work cafés, and 36 reduced-hours sites.

Eighteen branches will go counter-free as part of the changes.

The bank says digital transactions have increased by 63% since 2019, while in-branch transactions have fallen by 61% over the same period.
