The Mahatma Phule Police arrested five people for allegedly brutally beating up a family, during which a 19-year-old woman who intervened died over money to buy liquor from the complainant in Kalyan. The accused have been identified as Gulam Shaikh alias Munna (45), Abdul Rehman Gulam Shaikh (20), Soeb Rahim Shaikh (23), Aziz Ibrahim Shaikh (23), and Shahid Yusuf Shaikh (20), all of whom are residents of Kalyan. The police said that the incident took place in the Indira Nagar area of Kalyan West on Monday at 10 PM when the complainant, identified as Nisar Sayyed, was eating dinner at home.

The complainant, Nisar Sayyed, who is a vegetable vendor by profession, lived with his wife and daughter, Saniya Bagwan, in Indiranagar, Kalyan. The accused, Gulam, went to the complainant's vegetable cart and asked for money to buy liquor. However, Sayyed refused to give him money. Thereafter, Gulam started a verbal brawl that escalated into a heated argument. Subsequently, Gulam went home, narrated the entire episode to his son, Abdul Rehman, and then alerted his three friends. They went to Sayyed's home, called him to step outside, and asked him why he did this to his father. They then allegedly beat Sayyed with fists and blows. Meanwhile, Sayyed's wife and daughter, Saniya Bagwan, intervened to sort things out. However, in a fit of anger, they allegedly beat them brutally with a wooden stick. As a result, Saniya suffered head injuries and collapsed on the floor. Thereafter, they all fled the scene after attacking them.

The locals rushed to the spot, alerted the local police, and took them to a nearby hospital where Saniya was declared dead during treatment. An FIR under charges of murder and unlawful assembly has been registered against them.

Vijay Naik, Senior Police Inspector from Mahatma Phule Police Station, stated, 'We formed a team and are reviewing the CCTV footage installed in the nearby locality. We discovered their photos, learned about their locations, and apprehended them within four hours. The accused were produced in court and remanded to police custody for further investigation."

Naik further added that Saniya was married a year ago and that she came to her maternal home for treatment after the miscarriage of her first pregnancy.
