Microsoft has officially launched two new additions to its Surface family—the Surface Pro 12-inch and the Surface Laptop 13.8-inch—marking the company’s first devices under the Copilot+ PC label. Unveiled on Tuesday, the new Surface machines are designed to showcase Microsoft’s AI-focused hardware vision, powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X-series processors with dedicated NPUs for on-device artificial intelligence tasks.
These Copilot+ PCs are built to support advanced features like CoCreator, AI image editing, enhanced video effects, and Microsoft’s real-time screen interaction assistant, Copilot, directly from the desktop environment. Both devices are available for pre-order starting today and will begin shipping on May 20, with commercial availability set for July 22.
The new Surface Pro keeps the familiar 2-in-1 form factor but now comes with a 12.3-inch PixelSense display, housed in a slimmer, lighter magnesium frame weighing around 878 grams. Powered by the Snapdragon X Plus chipset and a 45 TOPS NPU (Neural Processing Unit), the Surface Pro is aimed at creators and mobile professionals who want tablet flexibility without sacrificing performance.
Microsoft claims up to 14 hours of typical usage battery life, and the detachable keyboard now features a magnetically flat layout for improved typing comfort. The Surface Slim Pen attaches magnetically to the rear of the device for easy storage and wireless charging.
Key features:
The Surface Pro starts at $999 (approx. ₹84,900) for the base LCD model and goes higher for OLED variants.
Alongside the tablet, Microsoft also revealed a redesigned Surface Laptop with a 13.8-inch touchscreen display, ultra-thin bezels, and a sleeker overall footprint. It’s powered by the same Snapdragon X Plus platform, paired with a 45 TOPS NPU, delivering native support for Windows 11’s AI features.
Battery is a major highlight: up to 20 hours of local video playback and 16 hours of web browsing, making it one of the longest-lasting Surface devices yet. A fingerprint sensor is now built into the power button, replacing Windows Hello facial recognition.
Other hardware details:
Prices for the new Surface Laptop start at $1,099 (approx. ₹93,500).
Both the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop are branded as Copilot+ PCs, Microsoft’s new category of hardware optimised for AI workloads. These devices run Microsoft’s latest tools like Windows Studio Effects, Live Captions, and CoCreator natively, thanks to the integrated neural engine.
In a blog post announcing the launch, Microsoft said:
“Copilot+ PCs are the fastest, most intelligent Windows PCs ever built. With access to large local language models and a 45 TOPS NPU, they offer entirely new capabilities for productivity and creativity—right on the device.”
Both new Surface models are available to pre-order starting May 6, and shipments begin May 20 in key markets. Business and enterprise availability will follow on July 22.
