New Delhi: As a result of the ongoing controversy surrounding Sonu Nigam’s concert, the makers of the upcoming film Kuladalli Keelyavudo have dropped his song Manasu Haadtade from the movie. The movie directed by K Ramnarayan, with music by Manomurthy and lyrics by Yogaraj Bhat, was also facing criticism for having a song performed by Nigam even after the controversy.
The makers of the film issued a statement that read, “There is no doubt that Sonu Nigam is a good singer. But, we are very upset by how he spoke about Kannada recently at a concert. We cannot tolerate the insult Sonu Nigam has done to Kannada, so we have removed the song.”
The controversy started when singer Sonu Nigam linked a fan’s Kannada song request to the recent terror attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam. He explained his stance later, saying, ““I am not a young lad to take humiliation from anyone. I am 51 years old, in the second half of my life and am entitled to take offence for someone as young as my son threatening me directly in front of thousands in the name of language that too Kannada which is my second language when it comes to my work. That too right after my first song of the concert! He provoked a few more.”
Nigam nonetheless continued to face the ire of fans, and was forced to eventually apologise. “Sorry, Karnataka. My love for you is bigger than my ego. Love you always,” he said on Instagram. Even after the apology the fact that Nigam has been removed from the upcoming film shows that fans have not been placated by the apology.
