Mahindra & Mahindra is gearing up to disrupt the electric car market, setting its sights on the Tata Nexon and MG Windsor, two dominant players in the segment. With its current electric cars — the Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e — already boasting impressive ranges of up to 500 km, the company has plans to outdo these competitors by offering even higher battery capacities.
Expanding Range and Battery Options:Mahindra is set to launch a new 79 kWh battery pack for its lower trims of the BE 6 and XEV 9e, a move that will allow these cars to achieve ranges of 650 to 700 km. This will significantly outmatch the range capabilities of current leaders in the market like Tata Nexon, Hyundai Creta, and even the MG Windsor Pro.
Sales Success and Future Plans:Since launching in December, Mahindra's BE 6 and XEV 9e have been successful, with 6,300 units delivered within 40 days. Notably, 75% of the sales have been for the 79 kWh battery variant, reflecting customer demand for longer ranges. In response to this, Mahindra aims to offer the 79 kWh battery in more affordable trims, broadening the choice for customers while further strengthening its position in the electric vehicle market.
Competitive Pricing:The Mahindra BE 6 was launched at an introductory price of Rs 18.90 lakh, while the XEV 9e started at Rs 21.90 lakh, positioning the vehicles as attractive options for those looking for a premium electric experience. With the upcoming range extension, Mahindra is set to challenge the current market leaders and offer more competitive options for electric car buyers in India.
