A horror crash sparked huge delays throughout Greater Manchester on Thursday morning.

Drivers faced travel chaos after two lanes were shut on the M62 eastbound between junctions 18 and 19 following an earlier crash. It is not known whether there have been any serious injuries.

An earlier travel update on monitoring website Inrix said: "Long delays due to earlier accident on M62 Eastbound from J18 M66 J4 (Simister Island) to J19 A6046 Middleton Road (Heywood)."

Queues had been stretching back past junction 16 of the M60 clockwise at Pendlebury, the Inrix traffic monitoring system indicated. However, both lanes are now open and queues have reportedly eased.

The Daily contacted the emergency services for further information.
