As well as carrying out royal duties during this time, Kate would also do weekly shops at the Waitrose store, and would be frequently spotted by royal fans. However, this stopped being the case in 2013, when the family moved to Kensington Palace. Now, the shop, which took over from a Co-op, is up for sale in Menai Bridge. As reported by , Waitrose paid £1m to take on the lease and pay just over £307,000 a year to rent the site, which increased to £318,000 in September.

The freehold of the site is now on the market for offers over £4.65m with agents Allsop.

Kate, who has been spotted at other Waitrose stores across the UK since, was believed to have been accompanied by a protection officer during her weekly shops, which saw the princess stock up on basics.

One onlooker, - just a week after the princess married Prince William - at the time: "It looked like she was stocking up on the basics, but she also bought a few special items, so perhaps she was preparing their first romantic meal as a married couple."

They continued: "She loaded all the shopping into her car on her own, then skipped as she ran the trolley back to the park. She looked very happy and was smiling at people.

"Most people didn't even spot who it was, despite her being probably the most famous person in the world at the moment."

The princess has also been spotted at other supermarkets over the years, including in a Sainsbury's in Norfolk, close to the Amner Hall home she shares with William.

In 2019, the princess was , Norfolk, with Prince George and Princess Charlotte picking out Halloween costumes.

It is not known whether Kate visits supermarkets as frequently since September 2022, with her husband now first-in-line to the throne.
