The Navi Mumbai Traffic Department has announced a complete shutdown on Thane-Belapur Road due to concrete work at a section of the highway. The closure will occur between May 14 and 21. According to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), the construction will take place from 9 PM to midnight on Wednesday, May 14.

In a report submitted by the Senior Police Inspector of Turbhe Traffic Division, the authorities suggest that measures will be taken to ensure minimum inconvenience to the public and less traffic congestion. Acting under the authority granted by the Maharashtra Government’s Home Department Notification dated September 27, 1996 and in accordance with Sections 115, 116 (1) (a) (b) and 117 of the Motor Vehicles Act, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Tirupati Kakade has issued an official notification that lays down traffic restrictions for the Thane-Belapur Road near IKEA.

Accordingly, the Thane-Belapur highway section spanning Savita Chemical to Turbhe Railway Station will remain closed for a week after the work starts. The regulations will apply to all vehicles, two, three and four-wheelers, for a short period as the authorities aim to complete the imminent work. To avoid traffic complexities, the authorities have suggested alternate routes for the travellers.

“Light vehicles will be diverted via the Fire Brigade Signal (Mahape), proceeding through Sector 26 APMC and Palm Beach Road to reach their intended destinations,” said Navi Mumbai traffic police in an advisory. “For heavy vehicles, two alternate routes have been designated.”

“The first route will require drivers to turn left from the Fire Brigade Signal (Mahape) and proceed via the Turbhe MIDC area. The second option for heavy vehicles involves turning left from under the Savita Chemical Bridge and continuing along the Turbhe MIDC route.”

The department has urged all regular commuters to follow the guidelines and restrictions in place to avoid traffic disruptions between May 14 and 21, the designated period for the construction work, as announced by Navi Mumbai Traffic officials.
