Kirstie Allsopp has confessed that despite sharing the screen with her co-star Phil Spencer for a quarter of a century, their off-camera connection doesn't extend to social occasions-evidenced by his absence from her nuptials earlier this year.
As the duo celebrates 25 years of the show, they've tackled whispers of a rift head-on, assuring in a joint Telegraph interview that they remain "great friends". Kirstie explained their dynamic, stating: "We don't socialise, because we work so much together."
And Phil echoed the sentiment, reinforcing their bond saying: "But we're very, very fond of each other. There's no one else who's been through this experience. I put Kirstie among the most important people in my life."
Kirstie added: "Ditto. In the most significant parts of our lives, we've been there for each other. I think Phil was one of the first people I ever told I was pregnant."
In a more personal revelation, Kirstie shared details of her spontaneous wedding earlier this year to Ben Andersen, saying to the Mail on Sunday in January: "On Thursday, Ben and I were married at The Grosvenor Chapel, where my parents and grandparents were married, and where we celebrated my father's life in June," reports .
She revealed that the event was a closely guarded secret, attended only by a select group of close friends and family. Details such as flowers, catering, lighting, and the order of service were all handled by trusted associates from her past work engagements who maintained utmost secrecy.
Due to the last-minute organisation, "some beloved friends and family couldn't be there," she admitted, including Phil.
Kirstie had previously labelled herself as "happily unmarried", penning in a 2020 column that she had "no problem being a middle-aged girlfriend with an even older middle-aged boyfriend". She and Ben, together since 2004, share two children and she has two stepchildren.
In honour of the 25th anniversary of Location Location Location, Channel 4 is set to dedicate an evening of celebratory programming on Wednesday, May 14. Over the years, Kirstie and Phil have assisted nearly 750 people in finding their dream homes, having viewed more than 1,800 properties.
"However many times I hear it I still can't believe it has been 25 years, it is an enormous privilege to have the opportunity to travel around the whole country working with so many lovely house hunters and such brilliant crew," expressed Kirstie.
Phil described the experience as "surreal" and considered it a "privilege" to have explored vast parts of the UK, assisting "hundreds of people in their home searches".
Reflecting on the past, he noted: "Although quite surreal, it's also been fun looking back and seeing not only how we have changed through the 25 years, but also watching how our friendship developed and then strengthened across the years."
