EDF is offering a fixed tariff which is said to be the cheapest rate since 2021. According to Uswitch, households could save around £300 with the tariff.

This is because the rate is only available until Sunday, May 11. EDF's Simply Fixed Direct May 26 12-month tariff, priced at £1,549 is £300 below the current price cap (£1,849).

Uswitch added: "If you're not on a fixed energy deal, you could save £226 by switching to one. It only takes six minutes to switch energy and start saving."

The price cap rose on April 1, meaning energy prices will stay high until July at the earliest. While the price cap will change twice more in 2025, it is currently difficult to predict whether it will rise again - or fall.

Richard Neudegg, Uswitch's director of regulation, said: "If you haven't switched energy in a year or more, it's likely that you're on a standard variable tariff. This means the rates you pay will change with the price cap, which happens every three months.

"The good news is there's a range of fixed deals available that will protect you from these changing prices and save you money. There are an increasing number of options, so it's important to run a comparison to see what is right for you.

"Switching to a better deal can bring down your energy bills, so you don't pay more than you need to."
