Patna The theft of Rs 70 lakh from an ATM cash vehicle in the Chhapra district of Bihar on Friday raised severe concerns about the crew’s behaviour.

According to Raj Kishore Singh, State Divisional Police Officer of the Saran police’s Sadar region, the event happened close to Hathua Market and was within the authority of the Town police station.

Before the employees proceeded to pick up an extra Rs 28 lakh from an ICICI Bank branch, the pilfered sum was taken from a Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch and stored inside the cash van.

When they returned, the personnel said that Rs 70 lakh was stolen and that the van’s lock had been smashed.

Four cash van employees—two custodians, a security guard, and the driver—have been taken into custody by the police to be questioned.

Singh said their attitude was “suspicious” even though they haven’t been officially arrested yet.

“According to security protocol, the driver must remain with the van at all times,” Singh said.

“However, in this case, the driver also went inside the bank, which raises doubts.”

A strange vehicle was positioned behind the cash van when the crime occurred, according to the local CCTV video.

Investigators are trying to track down the car and find any possible suspects in the theft.

A complaint has been filed against unidentified individuals at the Chhapra Town Police Station, and a Special Investigation Team has been established to look into the situation.

“At first look, the situation seems strange. We’re looking at it from all sides. A detailed investigation is underway to determine how and why so much vanished,” Singh said.

“The Hitachi Company, which offers ATM cash replenishment and collecting services in the area, owns the cash van. We have also requested that their authorities participate in the investigation,” he said.

With many leads being investigated, police authorities have stated their optimism that the case would be resolved quickly.
