Nowadays, most people do online transactions. Online transactions are done in many ways, like NEFT, RTGS, and UPI. Usually, the money sent through these reaches the other account on time, but sometimes, due to some reason, the money gets stuck during transfer and does not reach the other account. In such a situation, the UTR Number (Unique Transaction Reference Number) comes in handy. This number is issued to you when a transaction takes place between two banks.

Know what the use of the UTR number is

UTR is also called a transaction number or reference number. This is an alphanumeric code that is created by financial institutions after a transaction is done so that it is easy to identify every transaction. With its help, the status of the fund transfer is ascertained. If the transaction is stuck somewhere, then you also get information about it from the UTR number. When we call the customer care number after the transaction fails, the customer service officer also asks us for the UTR number.

How many digits does the UTR have?

The UTR of NEFT and RTGS has different digits. A 16-digit UTR number is issued for NEFT, and a 22-digit UTR number is issued for RTGS. When you look at your bank statement or mini statement, you will find the UTR number recorded in front of it. The UTR number for UPI is 12 digits. It includes details like bank code, mode of transaction, channel, date and a unique sequence number.
