Choosing a breed that will adapt well in its new forever home is no easy feat, with many options to choose from. Breeding standards define the desired traits among dogs, with each breed offering specific temperaments and also specific physical characteristics compared to the next. Fortunately, one veterinarian with over 10 years of experience has made the choice simpler after she declared which breeds made a feature in her top 10 best list.

vet Saddy, known as , formulated her list by basing each dog breed on both their overall personality and their individual needs. Armed with her years of experience, Saddy took to social media to shine a light on what positives each breed can bring, including what to expect when bringing these dog breeds into your home.

In the video, Saddy captioned: "We see lots of posts about breeds vet professionals wouldn't own, and while I agree with the majority of them, I feel like it's time to see the opposite of the narrative.

"All breeds have their unique personalities and health issues, but that shouldn't be the end all, be all. Again, this is personal preference based on personal experience and others don't have to agree."

Discussing greyhounds, Saddy praised these types of breeds which could become your next pet as they are often "gentle and sweet-natured."

Next on the list went to borzois and collies, which she praises for having "charming personalities with interesting and beautiful appearances."

Interestingly, Saddy included Pitbull terriers to the list despite these breeds being considered dangerous and are banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.

But, according to Saddy, these dog breeds are "powerful but gentle" and are a favourite among most vets thanks to their loving ways who often possess "scary dog privilege".

Other dog breeds featured in her list included Boxers which are said to be "some of the happiest dogs alive" with Australian shepherd dogs also being featured as they're "bright and alert".

Irish setter, Irish wolfhounds, and Cardigan Welsh corgis also made their way to the top 10 best dog breeds which is largely down to their happy-go-lucky personalities making them great family pets.

Unsurprisingly, Golden Retrievers were hailed as being among the best as they're the "definition of man's best friends" and were found to be an all-round good option as a pet.

Adding that these dog breeds also have the "best smoosh faces" and are also "extremely versatile and eager to please".

Comments regarding Saddy's top 10 best dog breeds were mixed with one rubbishing the claim that golden retriever's were the best and said: "I'll never own another breed of golden retriever."

Another expressed her happiness that pitbulls were featured in the top 10 despite their reputation saying: "My pitbull is my soul dog. Literally would die for him and he would me."
