In the golden era of Bollywood, a few love stories captured the public glare. Among them was Dilip Kumar and Madhubala. The two iconic and legendary actors not only won people’s hearts with their performances, but their chemistry on-screen and off-screen was loved to the core. Back in those days, the budding romance between Madhubala and Dilip was a topic of discussion. Many thought the duo might end up tying the knot, but life had other plans for them.

Many reports claim that Madhubala and Dilip were together for nine years and were secretly engaged. However, the tragic end of their relationship left everyone shocked. Recently, veteran actress Mumtaz has been gaining the limelight for her interviews. The actress also spoke about the relationship between Madhubala and Dilip Kumar.

During a conversation with Vicky Lalwani, Mumtaz revealed that Madhubala and Dilip’s relationship ended due to a child. Yes, the veteran actress said that Dilip parted ways with Madhubala because she couldn’t bear a child and become a mother. Later, Kumar fell in love with Saira Banu and got married to her.

Mumtaz said, “She didn’t break up with him. He broke up with her because she couldn’t have children. Instead, he married Saira Banu, who is a very nice person. She took such great care of him till his dying breath. She was his fan originally. They had a huge age difference, but these things don’t matter when you’re in love.”

In the same conversation, Mumtaz revealed that she met Madhubala in her last days. The Mughal-e-Azam actress was still very much in love with Dilip.

“Madhubala told me herself. I would go to meet her, and she was not well at all. She would say, ‘If I ever loved anyone in my life, it was Yusuf. But when he found out that I can’t conceive…’ She would call him Yusuf. The doctor told her that she would die in childbirth because of her heart problem,” Mumtaz added.
