New Delhi . Former West Indies batsman Brian Lara said that Virat Kohli should not retire from Test Cricket. Earlier on Saturday, it was revealed that 36 -year -old Kohli contacted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his decision to quit playing in the longest format of the game. However, a senior board official spoke to Kohli and asked him to reconsider the decision. Brian Lara, the only batsman to score 400 runs in an innings of Test cricket, supported Kohli to bat above 60 in the rest of his Test career in a post on his Instagram account.
Lara wrote, “Test cricket needs Virat !! He will be persuaded. He is not going to retire from Test cricket. Virat Kohli is going to score runs at an average of above 60 in his remaining Test career.”
Kohli was not good when India visited Australia for the 2024-25 border Gavaskar Trophy. He scored a century in the second innings of the initial Test in Perth, winning India by 295 runs. But after that Kohli lost his rhythm and India lost series 1-3 with defeat in Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney.
Recently, Rohit Sharma also ended his 11 -year Test career. Rohit’s retirement means that India will have to choose a new captain for its upcoming England tour. In such a situation, if Kohli also retires, then Team India may get into trouble on the tour of England.
