Navi Mumbai: The operation of private slaughterhouses and the selling of meat for human consumption without prior approval from the municipal authority are strictly prohibited by a directive issued by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC). This action complies with the bylaws controlling slaughterhouse regulation and Section 458 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, 1949.

Through a government decision dated April 23, 2025, the Revenue and Forest Department mandated that firms produce a “Building Completion Certificate” or “Occupancy Certificate” prior to obtaining a trade license in an attempt to reduce unlawful constructions.

All meat merchants are encouraged to apply online for meat sale permits via the official website, http://www.nmmc.gov.in, according to NMMC. Applications must be filed via the Health Department’s “Citizen Services” division, including with the required documentation and valid building papers.

Additionally, the company has issued a warning to unlicensed meat vendors to cease operations right now. Violators who are discovered to be operating without the necessary authorizations will face severe consequences.
