Insurance Scam Busted: Gang Murdered for Claims, Planned Third Kill Before Arrest in UP's Sambhal Newspoint  |  12/05/2025 20:39:33

In a chilling case of crime for profit, seven members of a gang involved in murdering people to claim insurance money have been arrested in Sambhal district, Uttar Pradesh. Police revealed that the gang had already killed two men and was preparing for a third murder when they were caught.

🔍 How the Murder-for-Insurance Gang Operated: ▪ Planned Murders After Buying Policies

The gang took out life insurance policies in the names of targeted individuals, often paying premiums themselves. Once the policy matured or enough value was accrued, the victim was murdered, and the death staged as an accident to claim the insurance money.

▪ Two Victims Identified
  • Aman (20) – Murdered in Amroha on 15 November 2023. He was killed with a hammer blow to the head. His stepmother, Rupali, received ₹22 lakh, which was later split among the gang.
  • Salim – Murdered on 29 July 2022, also in Amroha. The gang claimed ₹78 lakh in insurance after covering it up as an accidental death.

    After Salim’s death and the insurance payout, the gang held a grand feast (bhandara) that was attended by people from 12 villages—a grotesque celebration funded by blood money.

    One of them had even nominated his own relative for the next murder in their scam, planning to eliminate him for yet another claim. Their arrest came just in time, halting the third planned killing.

    ASP Anukriti Sharma, who disclosed the case, emphasized how meticulously the murders were planned and how the gang exploited insurance loopholes. The investigation is still ongoing, and further layers of this murder-for-money racket may be uncovered.
