Grand Theft Auto 4 is reportedly in development for modern consoles including PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

According to the latest rumours, iconic open-world action game GTA 4 could launch later this year, followed by a remaster of Max Payne 3 the following year.

It would certainly make the wait for GTA 6 easier to stomach, and as some insiders have suggested, would also give younger players the chance to experience the location that new character Lucia Caminos is said to hail from.

News of a possible current-gen GTA 4 port was reported by insider Tez2, who said that we may end up seeing it later this year.

"Someone at Rockstar hinted at the IV port, and by now it should've gone up a year in development," he said.

"We may end up seeing it drop later this year. And it's one more reason, in addition to existing reasons, the LCPP mod was taken down. If they still follow their plan laid out from the pandemic days, they'll do a Max Payne 3 port after [GTA] IV."

Fellow GTA insider Ben suggests that Rockstar will drop a new remaster every year, and that GTA 4 remastered will give ypunger players the chance to experience the series ahead of GTA 6.

"As I said before, I do think Rockstar will drop a new remaster this year as it seems Take-Two has mandated new releases from Rockstar every year," Ben tweets.

"We have seen this trend of new remasters coming out since 2021. Plus, it would make sense since Lucia was born and raised in Liberty City. A remaster could attract younger players who haven't experienced GTA IV, especially after they finish GTA VI. Anyway, time to keep eyes out on Korean rating board again!"

GTA 6 was recently delayed until May 2026. The news was followed by the release of a second trailer, which explored some of the characters coming to Grand Theft Auto 6.

Specifically, the recently released trailer showcases the two main characters of Jason and Lucia. The duo are said to be in the middle of a criminal conspiracy in the state of Leonida.

"Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them," reads a Rockstar Games blog post.

"But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida - forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive."
