Rakesh Poojary, the actor who won hearts through his presence on Comedy Khiladigalu, and earned fame across Karnataka with his infectious smile, sharp wit, and memorable performances, passed away at the age of 33. The actor reportedly succumbed to a sudden cardiac arrest while attending a family wedding in Udupi, leaving behind a stunned and grieving fan base.
He rose to prominence after his breakout performer on Zee Kannada’s Comedy Khiladigalu, where he first caught public attention in Season 2, and later soared to stardom after leading his team to victory in Season 3. His comedic timing and expressive range made him a household name.
But Rakesh was not merely a television talent. He bridged cultures by leaving his mark in both Kannada and Tulu cinema. His filmography includes roles in Pailwan, Itu Entha Lokavayya, Petkammi, and Ammer Police, among others. He debuted in 2014 with Whisky Is Risky and had recently wrapped filming for Kantara Chapter 1, directed by Rishab Shetty, in April.
Just hours before his untimely passing, Rakesh had shared moments from the wedding celebration on Instagram — a birthday wish for his sister and a candid glimpse of joy.
Among the first to express her sorrow was actor Rakshitha, judge of Comedy Khiladigalu, who took to social media to mourn the actor she called “the most beautiful person, on and off screen.” “Rakesha,” she wrote, “you’ll live in our hearts. Your smile, your mischief, your warmth — none of it will ever be forgotten.”
Tributes have poured in across social platforms from fellow artists, fans, and friends, while a police case has been registered as an unnatural death.
Rakesh had lost his father just a few months ago. He is survived by his mother, younger sister, and thousands who cherished his art.
