Lorenzo Savadori has been standing in for the injured Jorge Martín in MotoGP, and this Sunday he achieved his best-ever result in the premier class.

The Italian, who serves as Aprilia's test rider, is far from having the competitive pace of the full-time riders - especially since he has never contested a full season in MotoGP.

But in a race with treacherous conditions and some uncertainty over tyre choice at the start due to the weather, Savadori managed an unexpected ninth place.

An mistake-free performance and the right decisions earned him this historic result in his career - also marking his second time scoring points this season after finishing 15th in the GP of the Americas.

Previously, Savadori had never gone beyond 11th place in MotoGP. In the World Championships, he recorded a ninth place in 125cc, and a seventh and a tenth in MotoE.
