The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially confirmed the resumption of IPL 2025, announcing that the season will restart on May 17.

 

This update comes after the tournament was abruptly paused on May 8 due to a floodlight failure that affected the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala.

 

Soon, the clash between PBKS and DC was abandoned after a serious incident involving a Pakistani airspace intrusion near Chandigarh. The unprecedented situation forced the BCCI to immediately suspend the tournament and consult with the government and security agencies before deciding the way forward.

 

On May 12, IPL announced the

 

“BCCI is pleased to announce the resumption of the TATA IPL 2025. After extensive consultations with government and security agencies, and with all key stakeholders, the Board has decided to proceed with the remainder of the season,” read the official statement from the board.

 

The league with a blockbuster fixture between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings in Bengaluru on May 17. Matches will now be held across six venues: Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai. The playoff venues will be confirmed later.

 

PBKS vs DC match has been rescheduled to Jaipur

 

One of the biggest questions following the suspension was the status of the PBKS vs DC match that was stopped midway in Dharamsala. The BCCI has now confirmed that this fixture has been rescheduled to May 24 and will be played in Jaipur, not Dharamsala.

With the revised schedule and a new venue locked in for the PBKS vs DC game, the match will be played from ball one. Recently, Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh also confirmed that the match will restart. 

 

 

A total of 17 league matches remain in the revised schedule, including two Sunday double-headers. The playoffs have also been officially dated:

 

  • Qualifier 1: May 29
  • Eliminator: May 30
  • Qualifier 2: June 1
  • Final: June 3


In the official statement, it was also mentioned that the venues for the playoffs will be confirmed later.
