The upcoming prequel series is set to feature Lord Simon Fraser of Lovat, portrayed by Tony Curran, who is the grandfather of Jamie Fraser, played by .

Lord Lovat is poised to play a pivotal role in the new limited Starz series, but what many fans may not know is the fraught relationship between him and his grandson Jamie.

Additionally, the complex history between Lord Lovat and his son Brian, acted by Jamie Roy, will be delved into with more depth in Blood of My Blood.

Before the premiere of the anticipated Starz drama, let's dive into what we know about Lord Lovat and his tumultuous relationship with his grandson from , reports the .

Inside Jamie Fraser's bitter relationship with Lord Lovat

In Outlander's second season, viewers watched as Jamie and Claire Fraser, played by Caitriona Balfe, sought an alliance with Lord Lovat, depicted by Clive Russell, for the Jacobite uprising.

Jenny Fraser, brought to life by Laura Donnelly, was vehemently opposed to their meeting, warning them that Lord Lovat would only back those who could "help him line his pockets".

Despite Jamie's insistence on the necessity of the meeting, Jenny retorted: "You're defending the old buzzard now? Father must be birling [spinning] in his grave."

She disclosed that after the death of their mother Ellen MacKenzie, portrayed by Harriet Slater, they had scarcely seen their grandfather, highlighting the distance within the family.

"Father threw him out before he could cross the threshold," she explained to a bewildered Claire.

Jamie then unveiled the shocking truth to Claire: "He tried to have our mother kidnapped and take her to the Monach Isles in order to prevent our father from marrying her.

"There was some bad blood between Lovat and the MacKenzies."

Despite the murky past between Lord Lovat and Jamie, the Highlander sought his assistance to rescue Lallybroch and ultimately Scotland.

Claire narrated how Lord Lovat had played both sides, pledging allegiance to the English king while also supporting the exiled Bonnie Prince Charlie (Andrew Gower).

She continued to describe his personal life as "just as infamous", with extramarital affairs, including three wives, two of whom were "acquired by nefarious means".

Upon their meeting, he insulted Claire and commented on how Jamie had "bound himself to a Sassenach" and declared that he was indeed his "father's son after all".

He added: "Unless you expect the boy to have more sense choosing a wife than did the b*****d who made him."

Jamie retorted, stating at least he didn't have to secure a wife through "rape or trickery".

Predictably, his misogyny surfaced when he claimed enough air had been "wasted on women" and instructed Claire to leave the room so he and Jamie could discuss politics.

Jamie's relationship with his grandfather was far from cordial, and viewers can anticipate a similar dynamic between Lord Lovat and his illegitimate son Brian in Blood of My Blood.

As avid followers may be aware, Lord Lovat was an actual historical figure whose life details, including his cunning actions and changing loyalties, have been intricately woven into the Outlander narrative.
