Among the four sisters, the youngest Ramshila studies near Gidam and stays in the sky residential school. His happiness was expressed in these words after topping the district in the Matric examination-I dedicate this success to my teachers, wards, classmates and above to my family and NMDC. Now I am confident that other girls of my village will also dare to dream.
There was a big change in Ramshila Nag’s life when he enrolled in NMDC’s touching sky scheme. This school has been launched under the CSR initiative of public sector undertaking NMDC, which aims to provide quality education to the students of remote tribal areas. Ramshila met in the same residential school where she lives and studies. Ramshila says- When I was selected for ‘NMDC Choo Lo Aasman’ in 9th grade, then I felt that now things would change. We get everything here- books, coaching, even uniforms. My teachers believed me from day one.
In collaboration with the district administration, 160 students are selected every year in the touching sky scheme, which includes 80 girls and 80 boys. All of them are provided residential facilities, uniforms, educational assistance and mentorship. More than 1000 students have been benefited from this program so far. NMDC bears the cost of about three and a half crore rupees per year on the scheme. Vani Sahu, another promising student of Dantewada district, also credits her success to this plan, which proves that NMDC is really changing the picture of Chhattisgarh.
It goes on to say that in addition to this, the students of ‘Toutha Lo Akash’ initiative have recorded a great achievement by bringing 100 percent results in the tenth and 12th board examinations. It is a matter of pride that students who have achieved all the high rankings of the district are also from this school. For example, Aastha Verma and Niharika Poya have finished third with 95.67 percent, while Tanu Sahu has got the sixth poses in the district by bringing 95.67 percent and Reshma Baghel 95.67 percent.
