For decades, Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha’s captivating on-screen chemistry has fueled discussions, headlines, and conjecture. This was particularly evident in Silsila (1981). Although Silsila is still their most well-known and talked-about movie, the two appeared together in a number of other movies that demonstrated their easy connection on screen. Muqaddar Ka Sikandar (1978), Mr. Natwarlal (1979), Suhaag (1979), Do Anjaane (1976), and Ram Balram (1980) are a few of their well-known collaborations.
Fans went crazy over their attention-grabbing combo, which became emblematic of a heyday in Hindi film. Rekha once reminisced on her career and gave some personal insights in a special interview with Rediff to commemorate her 25 years in the film business. She talked highly of Amitabh Bachchan and shared the greatest praise he had ever given her, one that stuck with her.
Rekha gave an honest response when asked whether there were any indications of Amitabh Bachchan’s style in any of her performances. She accepted the comment without hesitation; in fact, she agreed with it.
She recalled how a reviewer once suggested that she had imitated Bachchan in Madam X, adding, “I don’t deny it.” “I concurred with him.” “Look,” she said, “we were at a highly impressionable period when we began working together. Every individual made an influence on the other. Back then, if you looked at a crowd from above, you would see a sea of people sporting the Amitabh hairdo. During the early years of my career, I collaborated with him on ten films. “How can I resist being swayed?” she said.
Speaking candidly about the greatest praise the megastar has ever given her, Rekha remarked that just having the opportunity to work with him is a compliment. “I believe the only compliment he has paid me, whether intentionally or inadvertently, is that he allowed me to collaborate with such a fantastic co-star,” she remarked. I have never gotten greater praise than that one.
Abhishek Bachchan and Shweta Bachchan are Amitabh Bachchan’s two children with Jaya Bachchan. Industrialist Mukesh Agarwal and Rekha were temporarily wed in 1990; however, their marriage ended tragically when he passed away the following year.
