Alia Bhatt was expected to walk the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival 2025 as part of the event’s grand opening. Her scheduled appearance at the French Riviera was set for tonight, marking her anticipated debut at one of the most prestigious global film festivals. The actress was supposed to fly over the weekend to attend the ceremony.

However, plans shifted unexpectedly. A report by Mid-Day revealed that Alia decided not to travel at this time, considering the current sensitive environment in India. Her team is reportedly evaluating her travel and public commitments based on the ongoing situation.

Red Carpet debut uncertain, but not cancelled

Although she has pulled out of the opening ceremony, the door is still open for Alia’s Cannes debut later during the 11-day-long festival. According to a source quoted in the Mid-Day report, “Of course, there were several activities planned around her today and tomorrow, but she is still contemplating if she can make it in the coming days. It will also depend on her schedule back home.”

Alia’s appearance at Cannes was linked to her role as a Global Ambassador for a major luxury beauty brand. She was to represent the brand alongside other international celebrities such as Eva Longoria, Viola Davis, Jane Fonda, Andie MacDowell, Simone Ashley, Elle Fanning, Aja Naomi King, Yseult, and Bebe Vio.

From Met Gala to international recognition

While her Cannes participation is still up in the air, Alia Bhatt has previously made a mark on the global fashion scene. In 2023, she attended the Met Gala wearing a white gown by Prabal Gurung. The look was well-received and contributed to her growing image as a global style icon.

Upcoming projects and career milestones

Back home, Bhatt continues to stay active professionally. Her last release Jigra, which premiered on October 11, 2024, received a mix of reviews with particular appreciation for her performance.

She is now preparing for Alpha, an upcoming action spy film directed by Shiv Rawail and scheduled to release on December 25, 2025. This film is set to be the first female-led entry in Yash Raj Films’ Spy Universe. Alia plays an elite intelligence officer navigating high-stakes missions, joined by Sharvari Wagh, Vicky Kaushal, and Bobby Deol.
