The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is set to begin trial runs on Metro-9 from Tuesday, May 14, marking a key milestone in the development of the new corridor that will connect Dahisar East to Mira-Bhayandar.

The trial will be conducted on a 4.97-kilometre stretch between Dahisar East and Kashigaon, kicking off the phased testing of this elevated 13.5-kilometre metro line. The corridor comprises eight stations, of which four are currently ready for trial operations.

According to MMRDA, civil work is nearly 85% complete on the entire route. Given the ongoing construction in certain sections, the project will be rolled out in two phases. The first phase involves the Dahisar East–Kashigaon section, with further trials to cover the entire corridor once all stations and infrastructure are ready.

Metro-9 is an extension of the operational Metro-7 (Dahisar East to Andheri East) and is designed to enhance east-west connectivity and ease congestion in Mumbai’s western suburbs. For the initial phase, Metro-9 rakes will be maintained at the Charkop depot, which is currently used by Metro-7.

MMRDA has set a target to launch full passenger services by the end of 2025. Once operational, Metro-9 is expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve public transport access between Dahisar and Mira-Bhayandar.
