Series creator Ryan Murphy has finally enlisted the key cast member, who will be starring opposite in FX’s newest anthology drama American Love Story. The first installment will follow the famous love story of American royalty John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. The latter will be played by previously announced cast member Sarah Pidgeon (The Wilds, Tiny Beautiful Things).

American Love Story is a scripted anthology series that will tell sweeping true love stories that captured the world’s attention. It is executive produced by Murphy, Brad Simpson, Nina Jacobson, D.V. DeVincentis, and Connor Hines. The series is a production by FX and 20th Television.

Who is playing JFK Jr. in American Love Story?

Newcomer Paul Kelly has been tapped to play the leading character of John F. Kennedy Jr., who was the only son of former president John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. The series will also star Naomi Watts as the former First Lady, and Grace Gummer as JFK and Jackie Kennedy’s only daughter, Caroline Kennedy. This marks the Watts’ newest TV project with the Glee creator, after last year’s Feud: Capote vs. The Swans series. Besides American Love Story, Watts is also expected to star in Murphy’s upcoming Hulu legal drama All’s Fair with Glenn Close, Sarah Paulson, and Kim Kardashian.

“American Love Story depicts the whirlwind courtship and marriage of Kennedy and Bessett. What started out as a beautiful union for the young couple, widely regarded as American royalty, began to fray under the stress of the relentless microscope and navel-gaze of tabloid media,” reads the show’s initial synopsis. “The pressures of their careers and rumored family discord ended with their tragic deaths when his private plane crashed into the ocean on a hazy summer night off the coast of Massachusetts.”
