CNG makes for quite a bit of the sales for a lot of manufacturers especially in Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities. This is something that the French brand was missing for quite a while since the segment they compete in loves CNG as their fuel option. The Citroen C3 has finally been introduced with a CNG kit, however it is not an integrated system.
The kits in question are retrofit kits but they are not the regular retrofit kit and rather a full system. Citroen has also updated the suspension to compensate for the added weight on the rear axle. The CNG kit can be fitted to existing 1.2L NA models as well and can be ordered from the factory. The price has been kept at Rs 93,000.
Citroen says that this kit will be able to have a fuel efficiency figure of 28.1 km/kg and it will also carry a 3 year/1 lakh kms warranty as well. The CNG will be available with the 1.2L NA versions which means that they can be fitted to Live, Feel, Feel(O) and Shine variants.
The CNG kit should make the C3 a more lucrative offer for customers and will help Citroen compete in the market better. This should have been introduced from the start. This is also not the first time that manufacturers have offered retrofit CNG kits for their vehicles. Even Honda offers CNG kits for their cars at the dealer level.
