Good Morning Britain's Charlotte Hawkins is taking a hiatus to chase her dreams of becoming an author as she nears her 50th birthday.

The much-loved presenter opened up about her creative journey on a writing retreat, signalling a dramatic career pivot.

Sharing news with her followers on , the seasoned broadcaster – who also helms a podcast and Classic FM radio show – revealed that she is dedicating this year to writing her very own book. Captured with her laptop at Lainstone House Hotel, Charlotte divulged her lifelong ambition has been finally brought to fruition.

Penning in her message, the doting mother shared: "So.. my big birthday is just a day away now on Friday (eek! ) which seemed like the perfect time to take a few days out and spend some time focusing on something I've been wanting to do for ages.. write!"

She continued, reflecting on her early passion: "Ever since I was a child obsessively reading and creating my own stories, it's long been a dream to write my own book. With 50 years on this earth fast approaching, it felt like the right time to try to make that childhood dream a reality - so I've been on a writing retreat organised by the brilliant @rosiejnixon."

She added: "It's covered writing skills by @jilldawsonauthor, offered an agent's perspective with @jen_savill, and the author's view from @jessicabullnovelist as well as Rosie herself. All set at the glorious @lainston_house, in Jane Austen's Hampshire, just the perfect location to write," reports

She added: "It's allowed me to find the joy of being a writer with a really special group of people - big thanks to you all. Plus we squeezed in a cookery course as well as a walk down the most gorgeous avenue of lime trees!"

Charlotte then excitedly disclosed: "I'm so excited to actually have the beginnings of a book.. now time to build on it. Hopefully turning 50 could be the year of the book... wish me luck! ! !".

Fans were quick to express their surprise at Charlotte's age revelation, with one fan exclaiming: "@charlottehawkins1 there is no way your turning 50! ! ! You don't look a day older then 30! ! ! But many happy returns for Friday."

Another chimed in: "Happy Birthday I thought it was 40 for you this year." A third complimented: "Happy birthday Charlotte you do not look 50 - have a fabulous day, many happy returns for Friday."

And another fan predicted: "I'm sure you'll be a literary success, 50! ! ! ! You still look 30."

Previously, the host confided to Closer about her apprehensions regarding her upcoming 50th birthday, discussing her feelings with fellow presenter .

Charlotte revealed: "I don't feel like I'm heading towards 50. I think I'm probably a bit in denial about it. I spoke to Susanna [Reid] at work, and she was like, 'You've got to embrace it. Ageing is a blessing.' I'm not sure I've quite reached that stage yet."
