New weather predict a continuation to the month with rain and snow set to arrive in Britain next week. According to the latest map by WX Charts, the for the morning of Friday, May 23 shows rainfall sweeping across much of the UK. Scotland is expected to bear the brunt of the worst conditions, with heavy precipitation hitting Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and snow of up to 1.5cm/hour forecast near Inverness. The storm system, driven by a low-pressure front centred over Northern Ireland, is also forecast to bring rain to northern England, with Manchester, Newcastle, and Leeds all likely to see heavy showers at around 7am.

Further south, the rain is set to extend across Birmingham, Cardiff, and London, with downpours reaching as far south as Plymouth and the southern coast of England. Areas around Southampton, Devon, and Cornwall are marked in bright yellow, with the southern tip of Cornwall even highlighted in orange, predicting rain of up to 4mm/hour.

Another Netweather map also predicts a significant drop in temperatures next Friday morning around 6am.

Even southern England isn't set to escape the cold snap with lows of 2C expected around London, Devon and Somerset.

The Met Office's long range forecast from May 18 to May 27 reads: "Mostly dry and largely sunny conditions are expected to continue for the vast majority over the next several days as a slow-moving area of high pressure remains dominant.

"It will continue to be warm or very warm for many, especially in the west, but it will be remain cooler in the east, especially along coasts, with some coastal areas seeing persistent low cloud at times, accompanied by a brisk breeze off the North Sea.

"There is an increasing chance that conditions will turn more unsettled from late next week though, as areas of rain and strengthening winds threaten from the west and/or south (the latter bringing a risk of thunderstorms). This would most likely to be accompanied by temperatures dropping nearer to average for the time of year."
