Sam Curran and Jamie Overton from Chennai Super Kings won’t be back for the rest of IPL 2025. Jofra Archer from Rajasthan Royals is also out. With both teams unlikely to make the playoffs, it makes sense that these players want to focus on their national teams instead. England has a white-ball series against West Indies coming up, which could see them playing.
On the flip side, Jos Buttler from Gujarat Titans, Jacob Bethell and Liam Livingstone from Royal Challengers Bengaluru, along with Will Jacks from Mumbai Indians, are heading back to India. They’ll arrive on May 14. There’s still no news about Phil Salt, who missed RCB’s last game against CSK due to being unwell. We don’t know yet if he’ll be fit to play.
In the meantime, Chennai is looking for replacements for Curran and Overton. They’ve already signed a few replacement players this season, but they can’t keep adding new ones now. Rajasthan has confirmed that Archer is injured and that they’re prioritizing his recovery. An RR official shared that it’s not about not wanting to play, but rather taking care of his fitness.
Kolkata Knight Riders star Moeen Ali might also be missing the rest of the season. He’s played six matches, and all of them have been in Kolkata. Since the champions won’t be playing there anymore, he’s got a decision to make. He’ll likely take some time to figure it out in the next day or so.
