As part of Phase B of its development, the Union government has authorized an expenditure of Rs 2,313 crore to improve the academic capability and infrastructure of the Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati (IIT Tirupati).
Prof. KN Satyanarayana, the director of IIT Tirupati, told reporters at a news conference held on campus Thursday that of the approved sum, Rs 1,243 crore will go towards civil works, Rs 517 crore towards furniture and equipment, and Rs 552 crore towards ongoing expenses.
According to him, the budgetary allotment shows the government’s ongoing commitment to establishing IIT Tirupati as a preeminent institution of national significance. The Director said that the Institute has already received Rs 1,444 crore under Phase A, which helped to complete Rs 867.49 crore worth of civil infrastructure, Rs 224.26 crore worth of furniture and equipment, and Rs 352.31 crore worth of recurrent costs. Building on these foundations, the next phase will propel the institute’s continued expansion.
Prof. Satyanarayana emphasized how IIT Tirupati uses entrepreneurship, sustainability, and innovation to solve important national issues. As the official knowledge partner for the Tirupati Spoke of the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub (RTIH), he said the institution is actively supporting regional development, especially via its partnership with the Andhra Pradesh government.
With the cooperation of important industry partners including Adani Group, Amara Raja Group, and Navayuga Engineering Company Ltd., the Tirupati Spoke will serve as a regional hub for startup incubation and MSME support under the hub-and-spoke concept. To address regional and national needs, IIT Tirupati will provide mentoring, research assistance, and customized solutions.
Kia India and IIT Tirupati have inked a memorandum of partnership. Supported by a Rs 35 crore investment, the five-year cooperation (2025–2029) would boost training and research in advanced manufacturing, electric mobility, and sustainable automotive technology.
Prof. Satyanarayana said, “These strategic partnerships align with our mission to promote research excellence, cultivate talent prepared for the industry, and support India’s socio-economic growth.”
