Another noteworthy achievement is the launch of the Pediatric Endocrinology Doctor of Medicine (DM) program at the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Bhopal.
The third institution in the nation to provide this super-specialty program is now AIIMS Bhopal. The course was formerly exclusively offered at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh and AIIMS Delhi.
Type 1 diabetes, growth abnormalities, thyroid dysfunction, obesity, bone illnesses, and other endocrine disorders are among the increasingly expanding hormonal issues in children that this recently formed DM program aims to prepare specialized physicians to address.
Dr. Ajai Singh, the director of AIIMS Bhopal, announced this noteworthy milestone at a program, calling it a tangible step in the state’s efforts to increase access to healthcare services.
“The DM course in pediatric endocrinology is a tangible step toward increasing access to healthcare services, not merely an academic accomplishment. We are establishing the groundwork for specialized services not only in Madhya Pradesh but also in other regions of the nation with this course,” Dr. Singh said.
In order to enhance the health system, AIIMS Bhopal will also be able to provide technical assistance for the establishment of district-level pediatric diabetes clinics in partnership with the state health department.
The goal of the course is to train professionals who can comprehend and successfully manage complicated hormonal illnesses in children, Dr. Mahesh Maheshwari, HoD of the Pediatric Endocrinology section at AIIMS Bhopal, told IANS.
He emphasized that this training would assist close the severe lack of qualified medical professionals in this area. “This course is a significant step towards improving children’s health,” Dr. Maheshwari said. Children with endocrine abnormalities have already received specialized treatment from AIIMS Bhopal’s department, according to Dr. Shikha Malik, HoD of the Department of Paediatrics, who spoke to IANS. “Many children benefit from the department’s “Pediatric Endocrinology Clinic” every Tuesday and its “Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes Clinic” every Friday,” Dr. Malik said.
