In the full-wrap frontal collision test at 50 kmph, the Fronx earned a Level 5 rating. The offset frontal collision test, simulating a partial front-end crash at the same speed, resulted in a 4 out of 5 rating for occupant protection with a score of 21.08 out of 24. However, the vehicle was penalised for potential damage to other vehicles, scoring -2.12 out of 5.
During the side impact test at 55 kmph, curtain airbags functioned effectively, securing a Level 5 rating. In rear-end collision simulations, both front seats received a Level 4 rating for whiplash protection. For pedestrian safety, the Fronx received a Level 3 for head protection and Level 5 for leg protection. It also scored a perfect Level 5 in the Autonomous Emergency Braking test and in lane departure prevention.
The Japanese-spec Fronx comes with enhanced features, setting it apart from its Indian counterpart. The compact SUV gets an all-wheel-drive option with four modes: Auto, Sport, Snow, and Lock. In addition to AWD, the Japan-spec Fronx is outfitted with a host of ADAS features. The ADAS features include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and front parking sensors. An electronic parking brake with a hill-hold function and heated seats are other major highlights of the Japan-spec model. Besides that, the model also gets a re-tuned suspension setup for the Japanese market.
Under the hood, the Japan-spec Fronx is powered by a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engineavailable with a choice between a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
