Gyanpith Award 2025: President Draupadi Murmu on Friday awarded the 58th Jnanpith Award for the year 2023 to noted poet-song Gulzar and Sanskrit scholar Jagadguru Rambhadracharya. The award was presented for his extraordinary contribution in Indian literature. Gulzar could not attend the ceremony due to health reasons while Rambhadracharya personally received the award.
90 -year -old Gulzar, whose real name is Sampoorna Singh Kalra. Hindi cinema and Urdu literature are world famous for their precious contribution. His poems and songs deeply highlight the truths of life. His famous songs include “Maine Tere Liye” (Anand) and “Dil Dharta Hai” (Mausam). Gulzar has been awarded the seven National Awards 21 Filmfare Awards in 2002, Sahitya Akademi Award in 2004, Oscar and Grammy for the song “Jai Ho” in 2008, and Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2013. The President wished him to recover soon.
75 -year -old Jagadguru Rambhadracharya, the founder of Tulsi Peeth in Chitrakoot has composed more than 240 texts. Which includes four epics. At the age of just five, he started studying Bhagavad Gita and recited Ramcharitmanas at the age of seven. Despite physical challenges, his “divine vision” served literature and society unique. The President said that Rambhadracharya ji has set inspirational examples of excellence. His interpretation of Panini on Ashtadhyayi, Brahmasutra and Upanishads was also appreciated. He received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2005 and Padmavibhushan in 2015.
Established in 1961, Jnanpith Award honors outstanding litterateurs of Indian languages. Prior to this award, litterateurs like Firaq Gorakhpuri, Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, Ashapurna Devi, Mahadevi Verma and Girish Karnad have been honored. Rambhadracharya was awarded a citation, cash prize and a bronze statue of Vagdevi Saraswati. For the year 2024, it has been announced to give 59th Jnanpith Award to Hindi writer Vinod Kumar Shukla.
