New Delhi: Vodafone Idea, who is struggling with the economic crisis, has told the Department of Telecommunications that in the event of not getting timely support from the government on the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) arrears, it will not be able to survive further from FY 2025-26. Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) has requested himself to give a new lifeline in a letter sent to the Department of Telecommunications on 17 April 2025.

VIL said in a request that “it will be impossible to return to his return. VIL’s Chief Executive Officer Akshay Mundra said in a letter to the Telecom Secretary,” VIL will not be able to operate further from FY 2025-26 without getting the Indian government’s timely support on AGR, as discussions of financial help from the bank will not be able to move forward. “

49 percent stake with the government

The government has the highest 49 percent stake in VIL. The government has become the biggest shareholder in this company due to the converting spectrum fee and AGR dues into equity stake. The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to hear a new petition by Vodafone Idea, demanding forgiveness of AGR dues of about Rs 30,000 crore. VIL’s lawyer Mukul Rohatgi from the bench of Chief Justice BR Gavai and Justice Augustine George Christ urged that the petition needed to be heard immediately. The bench can hear this petition on May 19.

Bank is not giving loans: Vodafone Idea

Vodafone Idea has warned the Department of Telecommunications in the letter that in the event of not getting loans from banks, it will not be able to move forward on the investment plan. VIL said, “This will stop the improvement in operations. With this, the funds raised by the company will soon be used and the entire capital expenditure cycle will be stopped. In such a situation, the entire funds raised in the last 12 months and the investment made by the company so far will reduce the price of government share.”

The company may stop

Voda Idea said that if government assistance is not available and the company is unable to pay dues, then the company will have to go to NCLT which will be a long process. The telecom company said that in such a situation the value of spectrum assets with the network will also be reduced as telecom service may be interrupted for a short time. VIL said that about 200 million users would be affected by this and they would have to take services of other service providers.
