The import of Bangladeshi goods through Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram will no longer be possible. Its purpose is being said to be to stop unauthorized trade and dumping.
The government has clarified that imports from Bangladesh can only be done through Kolkata Port and Naushewa Port (Mumbai).
However, this ban will not apply to transit goods from Bangladesh to Nepal and Bhutan. Bangladeshi goods will be able to pass undone for these countries.
Government notification issued
DGFT has issued a notification in this regard and this decision has been implemented with immediate effect. It is believed that this step has been taken with the aim of promoting domestic industries and preventing floods of cheap products from across the border.
