Import off from Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram, approved only from Kolkata Port

New Delhi. The Government of India has taken major action on readymade clothes and other products imported from Bangladesh and banned their imports from ground routes. This decision has been applied to trade especially to the North Eastern states like Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram.

Ban on readymade clothing and many products

According to the notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), imports of products such as readymade clothes, plastic and wood furniture, carbonated beverages coming from Bangladesh have been banned.

Imports from northeastern states completely closed

The import of Bangladeshi goods through Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram will no longer be possible. Its purpose is being said to be to stop unauthorized trade and dumping.

Permission from only selected ports

The government has clarified that imports from Bangladesh can only be done through Kolkata Port and Naushewa Port (Mumbai).

Transit going to Nepal and Bhutan will not be banned

However, this ban will not apply to transit goods from Bangladesh to Nepal and Bhutan. Bangladeshi goods will be able to pass undone for these countries.

Government notification issued
DGFT has issued a notification in this regard and this decision has been implemented with immediate effect. It is believed that this step has been taken with the aim of promoting domestic industries and preventing floods of cheap products from across the border.

India’s move will have a direct impact on Bangladesh exports, especially in the northeastern states. However, some channels are still operational in view of strategic and business balance.
