Grown Cyclothon in New Delhi, CBI member (GST) Shashank Priyas highlighted the transforming impact of GST on the Indian taxation system and emphasized how it has integrated about 30 different indirect taxes into a single, transparent structure, which has made tax administration and compliance for both businesses and citizens.
He also informed the participants about the important benefits given to small taxpayers through initiatives like GST Composition Scheme and quarterly return monthly payment (QRMP) scheme, which reduce compliance burden and promote ease of doing business. CGST’s Mumbai and Pune Zone also included Bollywood celebrities like Sunil Shetty, Milind Sonam and John Abraham.
More than 50,000 cyclists from across the country participated enthusiastically in this cyclothon, including senior CBIC officer – Rajesh Sodhi, Principal Chief Commissioner, CGST Delhi Zone; CP Goyal, Director General of GST (DGGST), CBIC and Mahesh Kumar Rustagi, Director General of Taxpayer (DGTS), CBIC; Representatives of various ministries and departments and members of the general public were involved.
At the venue, a dedicated GST help desk was established “Learn about GST” to join the participants and answer questions about GST. To increase access and access, a wide range of informative brochures was distributed on the main subjects of GST, and a digital kiosk equipped with QR code was strategically placed at the venue, so that participants can scan and download GST resources content directly on their mobile devices.
Additionally, lively hoardings and banners highlighting GST reforms and taxpayer -centric initiatives – especially for support for MSME, GST registration process etc. – were displayed prominently. Together, these efforts created a broad and attractive atmosphere, in line with the CBIC’s perspective of bringing GST closer to people through public engagement and education.
Cyclothon is part of a broad initiative that combines public health advocacy with taxpayers’ participation. This initiative is another example of the CBIC’s commitment to join the innovative and inclusive outreach programs with the taxpayers and the general public, which celebrates both the ongoing journey of national health goals and GST reforms, as India is celebrating eight successful years under this historic tax system.
