A husband's attempt to sprinkle a bit of romance on his wife's birthday turned into a comedy of errors when he found their hotel bed blanketed in crisps. Rachel Norman, 36, and her hubby Johnnie, 35, were celebrating her birthday with a night out in Blackpool, Lancashire. Johnnie, aiming to delight his crisp-loving wife, covertly asked the hotel staff to strew 30 assorted packets of crisps across the bed as a quirky surprise.

But the plan crumbled when the hotel staff misinterpreted the instructions, opting to open the packets and scatter the crisps over the sheets like some sort of savoury confetti. Upon entering the room, Rachel was gobsmacked, initially mistaking the scene for an odd burglary, yet she couldn't resist nibbling on a few. The confusion was cleared up by a red-faced Johnnie, leading to an uncontrollable fit of giggles between the couple, reports .

Crisp aficionado Rachel, who had been munching through four bags daily at a cost of £15 a week before cutting back for health reasons, found the whole situation absolutely hilarious. Rachel, who works for the NHS in Accrington, Lancashire, exclaimed: "I was hysterical."

She added, recalling Johnnie's reaction: "His face was a picture." Since the crisp caper, which took place on December 15, 2018, during Rachel's 30th birthday celebrations, Johnnie has steered clear of romantic gestures, but it remains a cherished anecdote.

Warehouse worker Johnnie reflected on the incident with humour: "Looking back it really is funny! Like we had some sort of pawn-cocktail crisp fetish.." To make amends, the hotel staff spruced up the room with fresh sheets and offered the couple a voucher for a complimentary future stay.
